Riley Blakeway is an Australian writer/director based in Sydney Australia
Riley grew up bi-nationally. Jumping between Sydney and California. He began making films at age 12, armed with a VHS camcorder and a desire to capture his friends and the surfing and skateboarding communities that surrounded him throughout his teenage years. This would eventually lead to work documenting those subcultures around the world, and the chance to create branded content with some of the world’s best athletes. In his early 20’s, Riley began focusing on music videos, narrative work and commercial content, and was soon called upon by clients like Nike, Corona, Levis, Samsung and Diplo/Major Lazer.
His films have been shown at festivals around the world, including Ciclope, The Vimeo awards, SXSW, Raindance and the New Orleans Film Festival. His work has been shared by The New York Times, The Atlantic, Huffington Post, Pitchfork, NPR and The Los Angeles Times to name just a few.
Over the past 5 years, Riley’s films have garnered multiple film festival awards, 8 vimeo staff picks and millions of online views. In 2017 his music video for LA rock band Cherry Glazerr gained viral success as well as picking up a UKMVA nom for Best Alternative Newcomer.
